Award-Winning Teacher!
David Wasser, our Yeladon (K-1) and Grade 2 teacher at the Frederic G. and Lawrence G. Cohen Religious School, was awarded the Jennie Klein Memorial Teacher Award.
The Alperin-Hirsch Family Foundation through the former Bureau of Jewish Education of Rhode Island has established the Jennie Klein Memorial Teacher Award to recognize an outstanding teacher (PreK-12) at one of the community’s Sunday schools or afternoon schools. By naming the award after Mrs. Klein, the Alperin-Hirsch Family pays tribute to one of the community’s premier veteran educators. Teachers in Alliance-affiliated schools who have excelled in teaching and demonstrated a commitment to Jewish education in Rhode Island and surrounding areas are eligible for this award, which provides a $1,000 grant to participate in a professional growth opportunity. Donna Tarutz, Education Director of Torat Yisrael, nominated David because “he represents a Jewish Educator in Rhode Island who is greatly and richly deserving of the Jennie Klein Memorial Teacher Award due to his excellence in teaching in the Jewish supplementary school, his commitment to the synagogue and school community, his classroom creativity and his every day commitment to Jewish learning, welfare, and future of the children at the Cohen School.” Lawrence Katz, Director of Educational Services, presented the award to our outstanding teacher at the Cohen School on Sunday, May 6. Students, faculty and members of our TY Family were present to congratulate David and enjoy his look of surprise at being chosen for this prestigious award! We are all so proud of David, and we wish him a mazel tov! Download our latest Jewish Learning GPS Brochure Here!
